City of London Sinfonia returns to Chelmsford with a programme combining the music of the greatest Classical age composers with music by two much-loved twentieth century Americans.  Philip Glass's Symphony No. 3 for string orchestra displays not only his hypnotic sense of rhythm but also a lyrical side, and there's a nod to the Baroque era in his sound world.  Barber's Adagio for Strings is quite simply one of the best-loved pieces of twentieth century orchestra music.  Haydn and Mozart open and close the programme;  Mozart's third Violin Concerto is performed by British virtuoso violinist Matthew Trusler.

There will be a pre-concert talk at 6.30 (free to ticket holders).
