To achieve peak performance, a professional orchestra must demonstrate many qualities that are equally desirable in the corporate world. Working and playing in harmony requires musicians to know when to lead and when to follow; to listen acutely and to communicate effectively without speaking; to trust in their colleagues and to cope with constant change; and to meet the ultimate deadline – a public performance – night after night.
Our Development through Music scheme seeks to bring a different approach to staff training as City of London Sinfonia musicians share their knowledge with professionals in other industries to help them strengthen the core skills they need in their working lives. The programme has also proved useful for organisations bringing together different staff groups and so has been used to forge new relationships after restructuring or mergers.
“Probably the best team based activity I have ever been involved in.”
