A lively programme for our visit to the Apex begins with Mozart’s Divertimento in D major, which starts with a free-flowing and delicate Allegro, contrasting with an elegant Andante movement, and ending with a flourish in a brisk finale. Violinist Laura Samuel provides the virtuosic solo in Mendelssohn’s beautiful and rarely performed Violin Concerto. The concert finishes with Tchaikovsky’s luxurious Serenade for Strings in four movements, including the beloved Waltz which is one of the most famous works for string orchestras ever written.
