New Directions as CLS appoints new Artistic Director City of London Sinfonia appoints Stephen Layton as Artistic Director and Principal Conductor. Michael Collins becomes Principal Conductor. Innovation, exploration and magnificent traditions are set to combine following the appointments of Stephen Layton as Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the City of London Sinfonia and Michael Collins as Principal Conductor. The 42-year-old Layton, Director of Music of Trinity College, Cambridge, officially takes charge of the CLS in September 2010 for an initial period of three years. He intends to build on the rich legacy of the late Richard Hickox's work with the critically acclaimed chamber orchestra, while forging innovative projects for its musicians and audiences. Layton's artistic vision will be supported and complemented by Michael Collins, whose appointment as Principal Conductor also begins in September 2010 for a three-year period. /continues....
