The Big Give Christmas Challenge
We are very excited that our music project with primary schools in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets has been accepted to be part of this year’s Big Give Christmas Challenge . The Big Give enables people to donate money online to a cause of their choice and during the annual Christmas Challenge it matches all online donations made to a project during a specific Challenge Week, which is 5-9 December this year.
In 2012 CLS musicians will be delivering a series of interactive workshops and specially designed children’s orchestral performances in Tower Hamlets. During this time, we will also be training and providing musical resources to primary school teachers and nursery school staff with the aim of building their confidence to lead more musical activities in the future.
Tower Hamlets has the highest rate of child poverty in London. 79% of children in the Borough come from extremely low income families, many of whom are out of work. This project will fill a significant gap in the provision of creative musical activities in the Borough, and give hundreds of children, parents and teachers in one of the country’s most deprived areas their first ever encounter with live classical music, professional musicians and orchestral instruments.
So far, we have successfully raised £10,000 towards this work but we need to raise an additional £15,000 to make the project happen. This is where The Big Give Christmas Challenge comes in! Any online donation received during 5-9 December (Challenge Week) will be doubled by The Big Give Fund (so if you donate £5, it is worth £10 to us!). So…save the date in your diary now (that’s 5-9 December!) and give the gift of music this Christmas.
